Test Three Flashcards
Describe the process of Mastoid Tip contact
Gently roll the head side to side to place your hands under the back of the head with fingers crossing over each other to provide support
Test the pads of your thumbs lightly on the tips of the mastoid processes
Settle into softness and think of your hands as an ocean on which the head can float
You may find the processes pull your hands in medially
Describe the process of Falx Release both in terms of how you do it and In terms of what responses you might feel in a patients crani-sacral system
Contact involves cradling both the Falx Cerebri and Falx Cerebelli between the two hands - one hand in front of head and one at the back. So that two falxs are extending from one hand to the other. Fingers point to maxilla not touching eyebrows
There is a direct pathway from these imfoldings through to the foramen Magnum and while sub occipital region - through reciprocal tension membrane system
Working on this release has powerful effect on longitudinal membrane system
Point of release may be local or distant
Follow extremes of rhythmic motion drawing into expansion and contraction
For what purposes might the Mastoid Tip contact be useful?
Place one hand under the cranium as in sub occipital release with the other hand placed slightly on top of the other with fingers crossing over
Rest pads of thumbs lightly on the tips of the mastoid processes
Assess the release of the Occiput mastoid suture, jugular foramen, balance of temporal and upper cervical spine
Good for glue ear
Ear infections
Headaches
Tinnitus
Drainage of Eustachian tubes
What are the nerve root origins of the Sciatic Nerve?
L4, 5
S1,2,3
Neurological pain down posterior thigh to knee
Pins and needles in legs
Describe the symptoms of Sciatica
Neurological pain running down posterior thigh to knee
Pins and needles
Unable to flex foot
What is the Superior Cervical Ganglion?
Upper most Ganglion of sympathetic chain
C1-4
Sub occipital region
Supplies throat, neck muscles
Where is the Superior Cervical Ganglion located?
Located at top of sympathetic chain bilaterally at levels C1-4 below cranium
What is the function and significance of the Superior Cervical Ganglion?
It is the pathway and area of synapse for sympathetic supply to head and eyes
Compare and contrast the functions of the Parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system?
10 marks
Sympathetic Flight or Fight Stress response Pupils dilate Sweat glands secrete Heart rate increases Digestion slows Adrenals secrete adrenaline Dilated bronchi
Parasympathetic Rest and Digest Stimulates digestion Saliva secretion Heart rate decreases Constricts bronchi Bladder emptying Erection Pupils constrict Lens accommodation
What is the Superior Cervical sympathetic Ganglion function and significance
Pathway and area of synapse for sympathetic nerve supply to head and eyes
Compare and contrast the functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system
Sympathetic Flight and fight Release of adrenaline Catabolic reaction Temp control Dilation of pupils and bronchi
Parasympathetic Anabolic Rest and digest Salivary glands Pupils contract Lowers blood pressure and heart rate Build up of resources in system
What is the understanding of the anatomy of the nervous system in terms of spinal outflow and distribution, potentially useful in diagnosis and treatment in CA therapy - give two e smokes one for somatic and one for ANS
Clear picture and diagnosis of cause
Parasympathetic
Asthma T2-6
Somatic
Ulnar Nerve C7,8 T1 affecting digits 4 and 5
How might you identify emotional characteristics in a patient through CS process
Observation Quality Location Breathing Relevant areas of restriction in system Tune into emotional centres
Give four ways in which a Personal Development plan can be helpful to you as a CS therapist
Allows greater stillness Settling of fulcrums Clearing own issues Grounding Awareness of transfer Allies for greater release
8 factors in Fascial Unwinding
Identify location Following and not imposing Breathing Articulation Grounding and comfort Stillness Release Holding at resistant point Allows greater integration of whole person
