Allegory
Using a story to represent/symbolize a historical event or some other issue.
Allusion
A direct or indirect reference to something that is presumably commonly known such as an event, book, myth, place or work of art
Anaphora
A technique where you begin several lines in an essay/speech which the same word or words to create a PARALLEL STRUCTURE

Antithesis
A figure of speech involving a seeming contradiction of ideas, words, or sentences within a balanced grammatical structure.

A short statement that expresses a general truth about life (wisdom)

A figure of speech that directly addresses an absent or imaginary person or personifies abstraction
Caricature
A representation, especially pictorial or literary in which the subject’s features are deliberately exaggerated

Slang or informality in speech or writing

Words that are described with this word often instruct/teach on moral principles
