The two bones around the ears.
What is a suture?
An immovable joint between flat bones of the skull.
The palatine bones makes up what part of the skull?
The palatine bonES make up the back of the roof of the mouth?
What is the mastoid process?
It is the projection of bone on the temporal bone that many muscles attach to.
What is a process?
A projection of bone.
What do inferior and superior mean in anatomy?
They mean lower/higher to help us orient ourselves.
What is a lateral view?

The sinuses in the bones associated with the nasal cavity are called what?
The paranasal sinuses.
What are the two orbits?
The eye sockets which are comprised of seven bones.
What are long bones
A bone that is longer than it is wide, but not flat ie. femur.
What are short bones?
A bone that is about as wide as it is long, like the Carpals.
What are flat bones?
Bones that may be long, but are thin and are usually curved, like the ribs.
What are irregular bones?
A bone that does not fit any of the other categories, like a vertebra.
What are sesamoid bones?
Round, flat bones that develop inside tendons, like the patella.
What is compact bone?
Dense bone matrix organized into microscopic tubes of bone called osteons.
What is Cancellous bone?
Networks of bone with many marrow-filled spaces surrounding the bone matrix.
What is ossification?
Bone formation
Articular cartilage
Hyaline cartilage that covers the ends of a bone in a joint.
What is the Axial skeleton?
The portion of the skeleton that support and protects the head, neck and trunk.
What is the appendicular skeleton?
The portion of the skeleton that attaches to the axial skeleton and has the limbs attached to it.
What makes up the Axial Skeleton?
The skull, thoracic cage, and the vertebral column.
What makes up the appendicular Skeleton?
The pectoral girdle, the pelvic girdle, and the upper and lower limbs.
The Pectoral Girdle is made of what bones?
The clavicles and the scapula.
What bones make up the arm and forearm?
The arm is made of just the humerus, and the forearm is made of the radius and the ulna. The radius is on the side of the thumb.
What bones make up the pelvic girdle?
The two coxae and the sacrum.
What bones make up the thigh and the leg?
The thigh is just the femur and the leg is made of the tibia and fibula, which connect at the knee where the patella bone is also there.
