Definition of Disability
Inability to perform SGA due to a medically determinable impairment, mental or physical, diagnosed by an Acceptable Medical Source based on signs, symptoms and lab data, which has lasted or is expected to last for 12 consecutive months, or end in death.
Sequential Evaluation steps
- Is the claimant engaging in SGA?
- Does the Claimant have a severe impairment (mental or physical) or combination of impairments?
- Does the claimant’s impairment(s) meet or equal a listing?
- Can the claimant do past relevant work.
- Can the claimant make an adjustment to other work?

Levels of Physical RFC
Heavy - 100lbs occasionally, 50lb frequently. stand/sit 6/8hrs
Medium - 50lbs occasionally, 25lb frequently. stand/sit 6/8hrs
Light - 20lbs occasionally, 10lb frequently. stand/sit 6/8hrs
Sedentary - 10lbs occasionally, <10lbs frequently, stand 2/8hrs, sit 6/8hrs
Less than Sedentary - Same as Sedentary except stand <1hr
Inability to Sustain - Unable to sustain work at any exertional level.
