Q

How do you test for halide ions

A
  1. Dissolve spatula measure of solid sample in dilute nitric acid
  2. Add 1cm^3 of silver nitrate solution
  3. Add 1cm^3 of dilute ammonia solution
  4. Add excess dilute ammonia solution
  5. If precipitate remains then repeat the process using concentrated ammonia solution in place of dilute ammonia solution
