Q
describe flame emission spectroscopy
A
- a sample containing ions is placed in the flame
- causes them to heat up and transfer light energy
- light passes through spectroscope
- it can detect different wavelengths of light to produce a light spectrum
- different ions emit different wavelengths so each ion has a different pattern of wavelengths
- so each ion has a different line spectrum
