Q

describe flame emission spectroscopy

A
  • a sample containing ions is placed in the flame
  • causes them to heat up and transfer light energy
  • light passes through spectroscope
  • it can detect different wavelengths of light to produce a light spectrum
  • different ions emit different wavelengths so each ion has a different pattern of wavelengths
  • so each ion has a different line spectrum
