Test for Anions Flashcards
Describe the test and test results(2) for CARBONATES
Test: Add a dilute acid
Result: Carbon dioxide gas released; effervescence.
Describe the test and test result for CHLORIDES, BROMIDES and IODIDES. What colors will the precipitates be?
Test: Acidify with dilute Nitric acid and and add Silver Nitrate.
Results:
- Chlorine: White
- Bromine: Cream
- Iodine: Yellow
Describe the test and results for Nitrates.
Test:Add Sodium Hydroxide solution; add aluminum foil; warm carefully.
Result:Ammonia is produced.
Describe the test for SULPHATES
Test: Acidify; add Barium Nitrate.
Result: White precipitate.
Describe the test for SULPHITES.
Test: In a solid or solution, add warmed dilute hydrochloric acid.
Result: Sulfur dioxide gas is released, which turn aqueous potassium manganate(VII), MnO4- from purple to colorless.
