Social action that is an immediate response to a person or group who is suffering or lacking the necessities for a dignified life

Charitable actions that respond to people’s physical needs and show respect for human dignity

We must raise our awareness of social needs and injustices, especially those who are suffering.
What is analysis?
After awareness takes place, we must use discernment and avoid falling into 2 common traps.
1) we are so overwhelmed by the problem that we become paralyzed into inaction (the problem is so huge that we cannot imagine doing anything that will make a difference)
2) we rush to do something without considering what the best course of action might be
What is action?
After analysis, we must take social action in one of two ways.
1) take direct action to help alleviate people’s immediate needs
2) work to change the structures of sin that perpetuate social injustices and the suffering they cause

They are 2 feet called the works of charity and works of justice
1) works of charity - direct action to help someone in need
2) works of justice - social action that helps structures of sin to build greater justice
