Q

Most important differences between abdominocentesis + thoracocentesis?

A
  • Abdominocentesis is an open system + thoracocentesis is a close system.
  • In abdominocentesis sedation is never used, in thoracocentesis sedation can be sometimes used.
  • Standing position or R lat recumbency in abdominocentesis + standing position or sternal recumbency in thoracocentesis.
  • In abdominocentesis it is “ blind” ( R from middle line)/ US- guided, and in thoracocentesis it is “ blind” ( from R, 7th IC place)/ US- guided.

Q

Most important differences between fine needle aspiration + core-biopsy?

A
  • Fine needle aspiration is simple, cost- effective + acquires fast result, core-biopsy needs special equipment + results are acquired later on.
  • Fine needles aspiration requires ø anesthesia while core- biopsy requires general anesthesia.
  • Fine needle aspiration has a lower diagnostic value ( examines only single cells) while core- biopsy has a higher diagnostic efficacy ( examines tissue).
