How: If a country is unstable there may be riots, protests or corruption and this may hinder or complicate business operations.
Why: Businesses should assess how stable a government is, what type of government the country has, how they will be impacted by changes in government and the legal environment within the country. damage to property, disruption of supply chains, and loss of revenue.

Article 1: Worley needs to bring in staff from its offices in Australia to ensure that the high levels of consultancy that is required is carried out.
How: Developed nations have skilled professionals that drive business growth, where as poor and developing nations don’t have the education system in place to develop skill level, (why) resulting in trapped in low or no growth of the business.

Article 1 + How: Worley is contracted in Kuwait, a part of Middle East and therefore the main religion is Islam, religion exerts a considerable influence on people’s actions and outlook on life, as well as on the products they buy. businesses will need to be aware of the religious beliefs of countries to ensure that it does not offend its customers and staff. furthermore, staff shoudl be accomodated (e.g prayer rooms)

it will be important for a business to know and demonstrate the correct communication protocols to display professionalism and respect for business partners

corporate social responsibility requires businesses to achieve its business goals in the context of the broader system in which it operates; thus giving due consideration to the community, society, triple bottom line and environment of a range of stakeholders.
To do this businesses support local charities, could create and publish an ethical code of practice, conduct its business ethically and legally, such as without bribery or corruption, consider sponsorship and providing donations to causes that target its market.

the activity of producing, buying and selling products or services, economic activity (size of a country’s economy) is measured by gdp (gross domestic product): the total dollar value of all goods and services produced in a country.
if the overseas country is experiencing an economic expansion, businesses would experience stronger sales, as consumers would be more confident to spend on products.
Similarly, if the country is experiencing lower economic activity (downturn), consumer confidence levels would be low, and business might not experience strong sales of her product.
when operating globally, businesses would need to be aware of the host country’s gross domestic product rates to assess the amount of spending on the business’ products, and their for it’s profit and success

Businesses would need to do accurate and timely market research to determine discretionary spending habits and patterns of current and developing global markets.
Business’s need to determine consumer confidence levels in the new market to see if consumers would purchase the business’s products if brought to this market. they would need to identify where its target markets are where consumers have sufficient disposable income to afford its products when these are brought to the market.
If the discretionary income is reduced, then customers are less likely to buy products from the businesses and they are more likely to spend their income on essentials.
