Test 4 Flashcards
1
Q
Myopathic
A
Problem with muscles
2
Q
Neurogenic
A
Problem with motor neuron and pre motor neuron
3
Q
Disease characteristics
A
Depends on what component of motor unit affected
-> Nerve cell body: motor unit disease
→ motor neuron axon/neuromuscular junction: peripheral Neuropathy
→ muscle degeneration: myopathy
4
Q
Criteria for distinguishing neurogenic versus myopathic disease
A
Myopathic: main symptom = muscle weakness/ wasting (atrophy) also leads to difficulty walking, lifting.
Neurogenic disease have: tendon reflexes lost, gradual weakness, fasiciculations (visual twitches)
5
Q
Causes viral:
A
Certain viruses can affect motor nerves selectively they may induce autoimmune disorder
