Test 3 Vocab Flashcards
Anascara
generalized body edema.
Arterial insufficiency ulcers
a major complication of peripheral vascular disease. These ulcers most frequently occur on the lower leg.
Ascites
: type of peritonitis caused by chronic liver disease, or right ventricular cardiac failure, in which there is abdominal edema.
Cardiac output
Amount of blood pumped out by ventricle in a one-minute period.
Cardiomegaly
enlargement of heart. Usually starts with hyper trophy of right ventricle.
Collateral Circulation
an alternative set of blood vessels in heart to provide alternative supply of blood to heart muscle.
Complete blood count
blood test preformed to detect the number of red corpuscles and leukocytes per micro liter if blood.
Cor pulmonale
hyper trophy of the right ventricle of heart.
Dependent Edema
edema of legs, ankles, and feet when the legs are dangling in a dependent position.
Endarterectomy
The surgical removal and replacement of an artery using a donor vessel.
Intermittent claudication
A symptom of arterial disease that can be associated with cardiac conditions.
Oligura
reduced urine output or reduced urine formation
Premature ventricular contraction
The most common arrhythmia, characterized on the ECG by a premature beat of the ventricle.
Pulse deficit
occurs when there is a different pulse rate detected over the aplical pulse (directly over heart) to that measured at a peripheral pulse such as a radial pulse
Pulse pressure
difference between systolic and diastolic pressure readings.
