Deprivation homosexuality occurs when people are deprived of their regular heterosexual activity e.g in prison

A recurring, unconventional sexual behaviour that is obsessive and compulsive
What is the difference between media and form fetish?
Media fetish: anything made of a particular substance eg leather
Form fetish: anything in a particular shape eg high heels
What is the difference between a sexual sadist and a sexual masochist?
Sadist: deriving sexual satisfaction from inflicting pain or humiliation on another
Masochist: deriving sexual satisfaction from experiencing pain
Describe bondage and discipline
The use of physical or psychological restraint to enforce servitude, from which both participants derive pleasure

The use of power consensually given to control the sexual stimulation and behaviour of another person

A person who becomes sexually aroused from secretly viewing nudes
What is scoptophilia?
A sexual variation in which the person becomes sexually aroused by observing others’ sexual acts and genitals

Deriving sexual satisfaction from fantasies, urges or behaviours involving touching or rubbing ones genitals against the body of a non-consenting person
What is victim-precipitated rape?
The view that rape is a result of a women “asking for it”
Define pedophilia?
Child molesting; an adult having sexual activity with a pre-pubescent child
What is sex tourism?
Leisure travel with the purpose of purchasing sexual services

How can homosexuality be explained by genetics?
- Cultural, social and familial pressure
- Genes can be homozygous or heterozygous
- Androphilia caused by genes is a desire for male sexual partners
What are some consequences of being LBGTQ?
Slightly elevated rates of depression and anxiety that correlate with perceived discrimination
What is a common explanation for homophobia?
The phobic person is often using the phobia as a defence mechanism since they are homosexual themselves.
What are three issues with conversion therapy?
- Ineffective: clinically tested
- Sometimes harmful: can lead to depression, suicide etc
- Unethical: doesn’t require a cure
Define atypical sexuality
Sexuality that does not fit into any pre-defined categories eg the dinosaur porn we saw in class
What is a fetishistic disorder?
Sexual arousal over inanimate objects, becomes a disorder when this obsession leads to impairment or injury
What are four characteristics of people with paraphilic disorders?
- Lack social skills
- Low self-esteem
- Depression
- Cognitive distortions eg false beliefs about the paraphilic disorder
