How does Mannerism differ from High Renaissance works?
Mannerism is a little more distorted where body parts are exaggerated and artificial, where high renaissance is based more on perspective and naturalization.

A fresco which used linear perspective and depicted the virgin Mary pregnant receiving something from an important person in a crowd of people. Created by Raphael in 1504

A recreation of a Greek painting , created by Raphael in 1510. He took the liberty of making the philosophers represent someone from his era.
What is a cartoon, and who started it?
A cartoon is a pre-sketch for a work of art, popularized by Raphael.
What was the “Pieta”, who made it, and when?
La pieta was a sculpture of Jesus’ being taken down from the cross, with Mary holding him in her arms. Created by Michelangelo in 1499. The muscles and veins were visible, the statue was very detailed.
What was David (high renaissance), who made it, and when?
David, was a sculpture of David from the bible story David v Goliath. Created in 1501, by Michelangelo.
How does the high renaissance David differ from Donatello’s David?
Donatello’s David is more feminine, while the high renaissance David is more muscular and manly.
Who made the Sistine Chapel paintings? When did he male the painting? Did he want to paint it?
Michelangelo created the paintings in the Sistine chapel, made in 1510. He was unwilling to create these paintings, but was forced by Pope Julius II
Who was Pope Julius II? Why was he important?
Pope Julius II was a conqueror pope who had several works of art commissioned, including forcing Michelangelo to create the Sistine Chapel paintings.
