Test 2 (Molars) Hard Flashcards

1
Q

List 6 crown features and 2 root features of the maxillary 1st molar.

A
  1. Largest Crown in max molars
  2. Palatal Aspect has an Occlusal Palatine groove (term pit)
  3. Buccal Aspect has a buccal groove (term fossa)
  4. Mesial Marginal Ridge is longer then Distal Marginal Ridge
5.Oblique Ridge from Distobuccal cusp to mesiopalatal cusp
  5. Cusp of Carabelli (on Mesiopalatal cusp, mid to occlusal 1/3)
  6. Mesio palatal cusp is taller than distopalatal
  7. 2 buccal 1 palatal root
  8. Mesiobuccal root is broader bucco-palatally than distobuccal
  9. Distobuccal root is conically shapped

Buccal cusps are shorter than the palatal cusps
Palatal root is longer than buccal roots

Q

What are similarities and differences between the max 1st and max 2nd molars?

A

Diff:
Distopalatal cusp is signficiantly smaller than Max 1 Molar

Max 2 Molar has steeper cuspal inclines (shaper cusps)

M2M has more supplementary grooves

M2M is smaller, less divergent roots,

Sim:
Both have oblique ridge and OP groove
Both have 4 cusps and 3 roots
Mesiopalatal is the largest Cusp

Q

What are 5 features of a Max 3rd Molar?

A

Lots of supplemental grooves
Crown is usually smaller and triangular (mimics M2M)
Shorter/fused roots
Distal inclines on all roots
Mesial Aspect is straighter

Q

List 4 crown features and 3 root features of the maxillary 1st molar.

A
  1. Generally 5 cusps; can have 4 (-distal) or 6 (+distolingual)

Mesiobuccal, Distobuccal, Distal, Mesiolingual, Distolingual

  1. Distobuccal developmental groove (shorter) & Mid Buccal Groove
  2. Lingual Developmental Groove (no pit term)
  3. Lingual Cusps are about equal height
  4. 2 roots, 1 mesial 1 distal
  5. mesial root is broader and longer than distal root
  6. distal root is shorter and conically shaped
  7. divergent roots

Q

What are similarities and differences between the mandibular 1st and mandibular 2nd molars?

A

diff:

1) Smaller Crown (mesiodistally)
2) More supplementary grooves
3) less digervent roots and smaller roots
4) Cruciate/Hot-Cross-Bun cusp pattern
5) Buccal groove (term pit)
6) Distal aspect is more convex

7) Mesiolingual cusp is slightly higher than distal

sim:
1) both have 3 occlusal pits
2) mesio root is broader, distal root is smaller

Q

Difference between primary and perm central incisors? 3pts

A

Central:
-Primary is wider (M-D)
- Primary is more curved (curvature of cusps)
-Primary is shorter (C-O)
- Cervico-constriction
