5 Character Ladder Rungs w/ brief explanation
- Trust: the heart/inner life shaped by trust molds our motives; lack of trust also produces lack of gratitude
- Vulnerability: being vulnerable means coming under another’s influence; vulnerability is not transparency
- Align with truth: to align means to bring into agreement or accord; on character ladder it implies a certain harmony with others
- Paying the price: set aside the short ladder payoffs in order to make profound differences in the lives of others; tough choices on this level
- Discovering your destiny: Mother Teresa; integrate rungs of capacity ladder with the rungs of character ladder.
6 levels of conflict management w/ brief explanation.
0- Conflict avoidance: avoiding minor conflict is normal, covering up conflict doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
1- A Problem to Solve: when an issues rises in which a solution cannot be reached or there is only one solution but people have doubts about it.
2- Disagreement: When there is a disagreement it is important to acknowledge it, fully discuss it and come to a common solution. Not a dangerous stage if resolution is made.
3- Contest: emotional energy of the problem can overwhelm the group and spill into the larger community, people start to take sides.
4- Fight or flight: loss of trust and ability to effectively listen, may need to bring in outsider to intervene, relationships start to break.
5- Intractable situation: little energy left to fight, outside support may only be able to mediate separation or bring in lawyers. Not much can be done on this level.
