Chromatic harmony
Unstable with conflicting/clashing notes and altered tones
Diatonic harmony
Harmony that is stable with not a lot of conflict on a regular scale with few altered tones
20th-century harmony
Mostly chromatic however there are splashes of color (jazz) due to the Impressionist movement in art
Non-western harmonies
Tones change may not sound good to a western year, African drumming, Bulgarian coral music
Monophonic
One voice, or multiple voices playing the same exact tune no harmony, one melody
Homophonic
Characterized by the movement of accompanying parts in the same rhythm as the melody
Polyphonic
Two or more melodies of equal importance occurring at the same time
Imitative polyphony
Melody start out with similar statement at different times
Non imitative polyphony
To melodies that do not play the same melody but are not of equal importance and simultaneous
