test 2 Flashcards
three difference. between normal and el nino conditions
normal- winds go east to west. upwelling of south american and surface currents go east to west
el nino- winds go west to east, upwelling stops, and currents go west to east
cause and effect of la nina
stronger winds allow cold water to rise to the surface, this means extra nutrients and more productiovity of phytoplankton it also causes hurricane activity in the atlantic
how does the moon influence the tidal cycle on earth during the day
the vertical movement of water on the coast and the change in water height is due to the gravitational pull of the moon
how does the sun effect tidal cycles on earth
the earth moves from the most distance from the sun to the closest point, whcih causes the greatest tidal range
3 factors that influence tidal range
air pressure, wind, size of the body of water
