Test #2 Flashcards
Explain the problem of Evil
How can God & evil exist at the same time? If God is all good and powerful, how can evil exist?
The Bible’s response to the problem of evil
Either uninterested or unwilling to tell us why evil exists. Very interested in telling us God’s response. Scripture affirms God is good and powerful and evil exists. Jesus joins a suffering world
Docetism
Jesus appears to be human, but actually, he is not. Fully God, but not fully human
Apollinarianism
Jesus has a real human body, but not a real human spirit. Fully God, but not fully human
Arianism
God the Father created God the Son, they are of different substances, not fully God
Adoptionism
Chose a special human for a special task, given special powers. Adopted a regular human to act as his son, with special powers but not God himself. Happens at baptism
What’s wrong with Christological Heresies?
If they are true, it destroys the Christian faith. Also, if they are true, Jesus can’t be our mediator. He won’t be able to bridge the gap between humans and God.
Who is Jesus Christ? Fully Human
Jesus Christ becomes fully human, joins humanity to become one of us
Theological
Tells us something about God
6 Dimensions of Resurrection

Christological

When humanity disobeys God, they dishonor him. God required satisfaction (Jesus)) Penal Subsitition Theory - John Calvin (Humanity oews obedience to God but doesn’t give it, God must punish sin in order to remain just and righteous, however God loves humanity so gives us Jesus) -Moral Influence- Abelard (Christ’s death shows us how much God loves us and prompts us to return that love
