test 2 Flashcards
why are there rainforests at the equtaor ?
because the earth is a sphere, heat doesnt get spread equally. equatorial regions get more heat energy because the sun is closer and is more concentrated. the heat from the ground rises to the air which makes the air less dense and rises. as it rises it cools and moisture condenses which causes convectional rainfall at the equator and gives rise to tropical rainforests which are hot and wet
why are there tundra in northern areas?
the sun has to spread out on a more greater surface area meaning that it doesnt heat everywhere equally. cold air is dense and sinks at the poles. it starts to warm because its sinking. as it warms it gets further away from the point that moisture condenses and therefore clouds do not form and skies are clear which give rise to tundra regions which are cold and dry
