TEST 1 - LIFT Flashcards
Bernoulli Effect, what is is & how it impacts lift
Static pressure, dynamic pressure, and potential pressure will always add up to the same constant value. Helps with lift because if the velocity of the wind at the top of the plane is higher than the bottom, the pressure will be lower on top
Stall Speed
slowest speed a plane can fly to maintain level flight
Airspeed
The speed of the wind when compared to the ground speed. V(wind) - V(ground)
Airspeed
The speed of the wind when compared to the ground speed. V(wind) - V(ground)
Coanda Effect
Air follows shape of curve
Relative Wind
Wind speed + direction
Coreolis Effect
Because the Earth rotates on its axis, circulating air is deflected toward the right in the Northern Hemisphere and toward the left in the Southern Hemisphere
Spheres of air least to highest levels above ground
Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere
Flaps
Trailing edge, increase area & lift
Slats
Leading edge, increase area and lift
Slats
Leading edge, increase area and lift
LIFT GENERATION FORMULA
force of lift = lift coefficient times density & velocity squared divided by two, multiples by surface area
