Test 1 Flashcards
Numerical summary of a population
Parameter
Numerical summary of a sample
Statistic
Proportion of a sample taking on a particular possible value for a categorical variable
Sample proportion
every group of n individuals in the population has the same chance of being selected in the sample
Simple random sample
What are the 3 types of sampling bias?
Selection, nonresponse, response
Group of people are over-represented or under-represented in a sample
Selection bias
Bias if the people likely to respond have different patterns than the people who are not likely to respond
Nonresponse bias
Participants provide incorrect information
Response bias
Single number estimate of a population parameter
Point estimate
Measure of the precision of the interval based on the sampling distribution on the statistic
Margin of error
Population is split into groups of individuals based on a variable that we thinks affects the variable of interest
Stratified Sample
An initial individual is chosen and every “K” person is chosen
Systematic Sample
a range of values so defined that there is a specified probability that the value of a parameter lies within it.
Confidence interval
a list of the items or people forming a population from which a sample is taken.
Sampling frame
Everyone has an equal chance of being chosen
Randomization
