Test 1 Flashcards
Gram negative cells
Show pink when stained. They have a layer of polyliposaccharides on top of the peptidoglycan cell wall and the plasma membrane.
Gram positive cells
Show violet when stained. They have a peptidoglycan cell wall and a plasma membrane.
Who fixes broken nitrogen?
Rhizobium and Nostoc
Isotonic solution
The world is great. Everything is balanced.
Hypotonic solution
Too little solute outside. Therefore, water moves inside the cell to balance the system. The cell will lyse or plasmolyse.
Hypertonic solution
Too much solute outside. Therefore, water moves outside the cell to balance the system. The cell will shrink.
Nitrogen fixing process
N2 –> NH3
Sing to me of the differences between a compound and dissecting microscope.
Compounds are powerful. That’s why compound microscopes have up to 400x magnification and better resolution than dissecting microscopes. Dissecting microscopes do have better FOV and depth of field.
