Growth is size, weight, and length.
Development refers to increases and changes in physical, emotional, social, or intellectual skills.

Key skills and abilities that are typically acquired at certain ages and in a specific sequence
What are three patterns of physical development?
Head to foot
Near to far
Simple to complex
Why is a stimulating environment important to a baby?
It promotes brain development which impacts all other areas of development
What are motor skills?
Muscle movement
What are gross motor skills?
the large muscles of the body
Ex.: Jumping, running, walking, etc
What are fine motor skills?
Smaller muscles of the body
Ex: writing, coloring, using scissors, etc.
What are the three most important influences on the child’s emotional development?
1) Bond between the caregiver in the child
2) temperament of the child

Why is attachment important to a child’s development?
A healthy attachment helps a baby develop trust, self-esteem, and social and emotional skills
