-arrested 18 young men - who were inspired by Al-Qaeda’s violent ideology
-they had three tons of ammonium nitrate
-3times the amount used in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995

Radicals

Extremists
hold radical ideas but decide to use violence as a means to an end
Terrorism defined
-commit premeditated violence
-threat to commit such violence
-intent- to destroy human lives/ serious material damage
-disrupt social, economic, political processes
-inculcate fear in the general population
-main goal: to force changes in society and/or influence decision making

He says: a terrorist is a terrorist no matter what his/ her goal is; no matter what he/she is trying to achieve; no matter whether he/she thinks that the government needs to be changed
Terrorism is both radical and extreme
Radical- because the goal is to bring about far-reaching change in the society
Extreme- because its method focuses on premeditated violence that can result in indiscriminate deaths
