What are the 3 Territory Types by Altman?
Primary: high ownership/high personalization
Secondary: medium ownership/medium personalization. if permitted
Public: low ownership. low personalization in a temporary sense
what is contamination?
infringing someone elses property and putting something “awful” in their territory
ex. loud music. Doodoo on the doorstep
what is invasion?
physically entering a persons personal space without permission
what is interacting territories? Examples?
spaces temporarily controlled by a group of interacting individuals
examples: classroom, space rented out, casual game in the park
what is violation? examples?
goal is to annoy or harm (not ownership)
examples: burglary, vandalism
what are prevention defences? examples?
defences that anticipate infringement and acts to stop it before it occurs.
examples: ear buds, glass, signs, fences
what are reaction defences?
responses to an infringement after it happens
examples: dirty looks, legal or copyright actions
