Flexion
bringing any part of the body from its location in the anatomical position to a more anterior location
ex: trunk, spine, elbow, knee, shoulder,hip, wrist, tumb
extension
bringing any part of the body from its location in the anatomical position to a more posterior location
ex: trunk, spine, elbow, knee, shoulder,hip, wrist, tumb
abduction
away from the midline of the body
ex: fingers, thumbs, shoulders
adduction
toward the midline
ex: ex: fingers, thumbs, shoulders
lateral rotation
rotating away from the midline
medial rotation
rotating toward the midline
pronation
medial rotation of the forearm
face down/ palms down
supination
lateral rotation of the forearm
face up/ palms up
eversion
turning the sole of the foot away from the middle of the body
inversion
turning the sole of the foot toward the middle of the body
elevation
moving superiorly
depression
moving inferiorly
circumduction
combined movement of an extremity so that its distal end describes a circle/ oval
ex: shoulder, hip, fingers
ITS IN ALL 3 PLANES
opposition
moving the thumbs opposite to the fingers
moving thumb and pinky towards the fingers
uses
- flexion
- abduction
- rotation
retrusion
for jaws, moving posteriorly
