Terms Flashcards
What is “P” and what does it tells?
The P value is the probability that study finding happened by chance. p - 0.05 is considered significant, or a 5% change that the study findings happened by chance.
What is statistical power and what does it mean?
It is essentially the number of subjects needed in a study to show the outcome of interest is clinically meaningful. This number can be found by a power analysis.
What is reliability and what does it mean?
Referees the reproducibility of the test. It means that we can test and retest same subjects with reliable results.
What is internal consistancy?
It means that the same items can be measured in different ways and the different ways will capture the same item.
What does validity mean?
Does the measurement capturing what it is suppose to.
What is face validity?
Is the instrument appropriate to measure what it is suppose to.
What is content validity?
Are the relevant facets being covered and the non-relevant facets not being covered.
What does sensitivity mean?
Sensitivity is “true positive.”
A high value (close to 1.00 or 100%) will tell us that a person who has a negative test will NOT have the condition - hence “SNOUT” we can accurately rule out the condition.
What does specificity mean?
Specificity is “true negative.”
A high value (close to 1.00 or 100%) will tell us that a person who has a positive test DOES have the condition - hence “SPIN” we can accurately rule in the condition.
What does the positive likelihood ratio (LR+) tell me?
If there is a high value, >10, it tells the likelihood that subjects with positive test results were found to have the condition.
What doest the negative likelihood ratio (LR-) tell me?
If the value is low, closer to 0 the better, it tells the likelihood that a negative test was found in a person with the condition.
