Terms 1 Flashcards
Voltage
Voltage is the pressure from an electrical circuit’s power source
Amps
Refers to the amount of electrics current used by devices in the system
Receptacle
Is an outlet where electricity exits the system through a plug
Device
Something that Carrie’s but does not use electricity. Such as a receptacle or switch
Conduit
A pipe though which individual wires are run. Metal often required in commercial insulation. Others only where wire is exposed.
Polarization
electrical outlets that have two slots: a small “hot” slot and a larger neutral slot. Polarized receptacles ensure that the electrical currents flow along the appropriate wires in the circuit
Split receptacle
Two hot wires on one outlet. Each powers one plug so you can plug in higher amperage appliances without tripping breaker
Middle of the run receptacle
A outlet with one cable that provides power to another outlet. Usually 2 hot and 2 neutral connected to this same plug
