Terminology L2 Flashcards
Definition of homeostasis
Allows the human body to maintain the set point of normal functions through regulatory mechanisms
2 types of homeostasis (and definition)
- feedback: when the controlled variable moves to far from the set point and the responses of the body try to move it back to stable conditions
- feedforward: when there is an anticipation of an event that will alter a controlled variable ( you control your actions)
what is the anatomical position
-upright
-face forward
-feet together
-palms face forward
terms in relation to something at the front and back
anterior: forwards
posterior: backwards
terms in relation towards top and bottom
superior: towards head
inferior: away from head
terms in relation middle
medial: towards middle
lateral: away from middle
terms in relation to limb attachments
proximal: closer to limb attachment
distal: further from limb attachment
terms in relation to surface
deep: further from surface (closer to bone)
superficial: closer to surface ( further from bone)
3 divisional planes of the body
- sagittal: divides body in left and right
- coronal: divides body in front and back
- transverse: divides body in top and bottom
4 types of movement in sagittal plane
(up and down)
- flexion: decrease in angle
- extension: increase in angle
1.dorsiflexion: toes point up
2.plantarflexion: toes point down
4 types of movement in coronal plane
(side to side)
- abduction: movement of joint away from body
- adduction: movement towards the body
- inversion: sole of foot shows towards midline
- eversion: sole of foot faces away from midline
what is circumduction
NOT ROTATION but a combination
-flexion
-abduction
-extension
-adduction
3 types of movement in the transversal plane
- rotation: rotating around the axis
- pronation: palms face posterior
- supination: palms face anterior
