Terminology For Bones, Landmaeks, Directions Flashcards
Clavicle
Bone that links the sternum and scapula
Femur
The proximal bone of the lower limb, located between the pelvis and knee
Transverse plane
A plane that divides the Body or organs into superior and inferior portions
Inversion
The movement of the sole medically at the ankle joint
Shaft
Mid section of a long bone
Proximal
Located near the central part of the body
Supine
Face up
Medial
Situated in or extending to the middle
Spinous process
Sharp or thorn like projection running along the posterior mid line of the vertebrae
Tibia
Located medically, larger of the two bones situated between knee and ankle
Acromion process
Outer extremity of the scapula
Thorax
Part of the body between The neck and the diaphragm. Ribs found here
Sagittal
Divides the body into right and left halves, planes.
Tendon
Band of tough, inelastic fibrous tissue that connect muscle to bone
Depress
To press down or lower
Supraspinous fossa
Hollow or depression found above spine or scapula
Ligaments
A sheet or band of tough, fibrous tissue connecting two or more bones
Infraspinous fossa
Hollow or depression found below then spine of the scapula
Interosseus membrane
Membrane found between two bones
Manubrium
Superior part of the sternum
Tranvers process
Lateral projections from the vertebrae
Hyperexention
Continuation of the extension beyond the anatomical position, as in bending then head a backward
Circumduction
A movement in which the distal end of bone moves in a circle while the proximal end remains relatively stable
Extension
An increase in the angle between two bones, restoring a body part to the anatomical position after flexing
