Choreography
The art of creating dance
Choreographic approach
The way in which a choreographer makes a dance
Stimulus
Inspiration for an idea or movement ( starting point )
Choreographic intention
The aim of the dance; what the choreographer aims to communicate
Elements of dance
Action, space , dynamics , relationships
Motif
A movement phrase encapsulating an idea that is repeated and developed throughout the dance
Constituent features
Characteristics of choreography e.g. style, stimulus, subject matter, number / gender of the dancers, action content, physical and aural settings
Action
What a dancer does e.g. travelling, turning, elevation, gesture, stillness, floorwork, use of different body parts, transfer of weight etc..
Space
The “where” movement such as levels, pathways, directions, patterns, spatial design
Dynamics
The qualities of movement based upon variations in speed, strength and flow.
Relationships
The ways in which dancers interact; the connections between dancers.
