No True Heart. Fluids flow freely throughout the body
Notochord
Flexible supporting rod that runs the length of the body. Dorsal digestive tract replaced by vertebral column in vertebrates.
Dorsal Hollow Nerve Tube
Develops into the central nervous system: the brain and spine by which cerebrospinal fluid passes.
Pharyngeal Gill Slits/Pouches
Animals have gill slits and humans have pouches.
Ectothermic
Animals whose regulation of body temperature depends on external sources, such as sunlight or a heated rock surface
Endothermic
Animals that maintain a constant body temperature independent of the environment.
Tissue
Consists of a group of structurally and functionally similar cells and their intercellular material
Organ
A group of tissues in a living organism that have been adapted to perform a specific function. In higher animals, organs are grouped into organ systems
Organ System
A group of anatomical structures that work together to perform a specific function or task
