what is an ABP (Able bodied passenger)?
a person who volunteers or is nominated to assist cabin crew with an evacuation.
what is an ACP (attendant control panel)?
A unit that consists of hardware controls and a touchscreen in an aircraft with the Boeing sky interior.
what is an AED?
Automated external defibrillator.
what does A/C stand for?
aircraft.
what does AFT stand for?
Towards the rear of the aircraft.
what is an airbridge?
a maneuverable enclosed access way into the aircraft in some airports.
who are the aircrew?
the aircrew consists of the cc (cabin crew) and the pilots ( all crew required to operate flights).
what are airstairs?
folding boarding/disembarking stairs which are self-stowing beneath the main passenger door.
what is the APU?
Auxiliary power unit: a small engine below the tail of the aircraft which supplies electrical power while the aircraft is on the ground.
what is the assist space:
A defined area at each emergency door allocated for the cc( cabin crew) to stand in for the purpose of evacuating passengers without causing an obstruction at the exit.
what is Bluetooth?
A wireless 2.4ghz connection for sending and receiving data.
what type of Bluetooth is allowed on Ryanair flights?
Low powered Bluetooth.
what is the brace position?
A position adopted, when seated by all passengers and cc (cabin crew) during an emergency landing. It helps to minimize injuries which result from forced body movements.
what is BSI?
Boeing sky interior.
who are the cabin crew?
An aircrew member other than the flight crew who performs in the interest of safety of passengers. duties assigned by the operator the captain of the aircraft.
what is a CB?
Circuit breaker. they are these little black switches that can trip and cut off power to a certain area to the aircraft in case of an electrical fault to prevent further damage to the electrics.
what is a CDF?
A Cabin Documents Folder is a dedicated, cloud based folder containing safety documents related to cabin crew operation. The folder can only be accessed by the VPOS device.
what is a CSA?
Cabin service agent.
what is Direct access row segment?
A row segment in which there is at least one direct access seat.
what is a CSS?
cabin service supervisor. this is a rostering code referring to a no.1.
what is Direct row access?
It means a seat from which a passenger can proceed directly to the exit without entering an isle or obstructing passengers.
what is ditching?
an emergency landing on water by aircraft.
what is a diversion?
when the aircraft cannot proceed to the intended destination due to a fault or bad weather.

a disruptive passenger.

A sequence of actions which should be followed.

ELP
Emergency landing procedure.
EFB
Electronic flight bag
EFL
Electronic flight log. An application available to aircrew permitting check-in and check-out for flying duty. via VPOS or electronic flight bag.
FCI
flight crew instruction- Amendments to the operations manual part A.
FWD
Forwards- towards the front of the aircraft.
flight crew.
normally consists of the captain and the first officer ( the pilots).
flight deck
the compartment from which the aircraft is flown. also known as the cockpit.
FR
flight regulations assigned by IATA (International air transport association).
fuselage
the outer skin of the aircraft.
girt apron
A piece of heavy material which connects the evacuation device to the girt bar.
girt bar
A metal bar which connects to brackets on the floor when the aircraft slide is armed.
GPU
Ground power unit. This provides power to the aircraft instead of the APU.
Hold
A compartment in the lower deck where all the baggage and cargo are stowed.
IAA
Irish aviation authority.
IATA
International air transport association.
ICAO
International civil aviation organization.
IFD
Infant flotation device.
INBOARD
the direction towards the Centre of the aircraft.
INFANT
a passenger that is under the age of 2 years.
INOP
inoperable or having technical fault.
JU
Junior cabin crew.
landing gear
The wheels and the associated components on which the aircraft lands. also called the undercarriage.
LC
line checker / line check.
LID
The load information document. this is prepared by the handling agent and is given to the captain prior to departure. the LID contains information such as passenger and baggage numbers and locations.
LJ
life jacket
Loadsheet
A loadsheet is a mass and baggage balance document containing information such as passenger numbers, weights, baggage etc. and may be used in place of the electronic equivalent.
Local QRG
Local quick reference guide. Electronic document available to aircrew describing specific base requirements for accessing restricted areas, type of accepted identification cards and local access codes.

Notification to captain.
Minimuns
weather conditions restricting take-off and landing.
NP
Nominated person.
OPS manual
The governing document approved by the IAA that sets out company policy and regulations.

the direction towards the outside of the aircraft.
