It is any chemical that can affect living processes.
Drug
A property of an ideal drug wherein the drug elicits the response for which it is given.
Effectiveness
A property of an ideal drug wherein the drug only elicits the response for which it is giving without much side effects.
Selectivity
It is an ethical consideration wherein the patients are treated as independent persons who are capable of making decisions in their own best interests.
Autonomy
It is an ethical consideration that requires fair selection of research subjects, including every minorities in the population.
Justice
It describes the drug’s chemical structure.
Chemical name
It is the official, non-proprietary name, not owned by any company and is universally acceptable.
Generic name
It is the proprietary name of the drug that’s chosen by the drug company and registered as trademark.
Brand name
It is the proprietary name of the drug that’s chosen by the drug company and registered as trademark.
Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs
Drugs that are given “as needed” by the patients with a set reason of administration set by the physician.
PRN drugs
Also known as compliance of the patients with medical advice.
Patient adherence
It is the study of the movement of the drug throughout the body.
