term 2 science revision Flashcards
to revise for my science test
What is a binomial nomenclature?
The same thing as the Linnean system (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)
Recall the 6 Kingdoms of Life
Plantae, Animalia, Fungi, Protista, Archaebacteria, and Eubacteria
Which two Kingdoms have prokaryote cells
Archaea and Bacteria
What are the common features for organisms of the same kingdom
Cell Type, Cell Number, and Cell Energy Source
What are the common features for organisms of the same species
The presence or absence of structural features or differences in features via a Dichotomous key
Define the term heterotroph
A heterotroph is a consumer and a decomposer. It needs food (glucose) to get energy.
Define the term autotroph
An autotroph is a producer. It forms its own food (glucose).
Define the term producer
Generates glucose from sunlight (by photosynthesis) to make energy
Define the term consumer (primary, secondary, tertiary)
Consumes other organisms to get glucose to make energy (by cellular respiration).
Define the term decomposer
Decomposes materials and absorbs glucose to make energy (by cellular respiration).
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis:
Creating sugar and oxygen from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight
What is cellular respiration?
Respiration:
Bringing oxygen into our bodies (called inspiration, or inhalation) and send carbon dioxide out (called expiration, or exhalation).
