Term 1 Test Flashcards
What is newtons first law
A moving object will continue to move at the same speed and direction unless an external force acts on it. A stationary object will remain at rest unless an external force acts on it
What is a balanced force
Balanced forces are ( zero resultant force) and will not change the velocity of an object
What is an unbalanced force
An unbalanced force is a ( non zero resultant force) that changes the speed and or direction of an object
What is mass and what is it’s units of measure
Mass is the quantity of matter that is in an object which only changes if the object changes. It is measured in kg
What is weight and what are the units of measure
A measure of pull on gravity on an object and depends on the strength if gravity.
Weight is measured in (N).
What is the equation for weight
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
What is the gravitation field strength on earth
Around 10 N per kilogram ( N / kg). Meaning that each kilogram is pulled down with a force of 10 N
What is Newton’s second law
The acceleration in the direction of a resultant force depends on the size of the force and the mass of the object
What is the equation for calculating forces
F = m x a. A = f / m M = f/ a
What is Newton’s third law
Is about the forces on two different objects when they interact this can happen when objects touch
What is terminal velocity
The maximum velocity attainable as an object as it falls through a fluid
What is a resultant force
A system of forces acting on an object, the difference between the forces
