History: In the 1930s. Some sources claim Gene Sulit of the Arizona Baltimore Hotel made a cocktail for a patron who wanted a pool side refreshing drink. Others say it was invented at the same time at a prohibition-era resort in Tijuana. Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones liked Bobby Lozhoff’s version of the Tequila Sunrise which is closest to what the recipe is today. He made it popular during the tour nicknamed the Tequila Sunrise and Cocaine Tour. A year later in 1973, Jose Cuervo printed that Tequila Sunrise recipe on its bottle.

The original recipe was something like this:

2 oz Blanco Tequila
1/2 Crème de Cassis
3/4 Lime Juice
1/2 Grenadine
Top Soda Water

1.5 Tequila
1/2 Crème de Cassis
