reforms seeking to persuade people that feminine characteristics should be prized at least as much as masculine characteristics
What is the post-modern type of movement?
revolutionary in that rejects earlier feminine idea that women have the same needs, reformist in that it supports small scale change
What is the liberal view of the patriarchy?
its a modern phenomenon that can be combated through legal and cultural reform
What is the radical view of the patriarchy?
long and deep historical roots. Has penetrated deep into male and female conscious
What is the socialist view of the patriarchy?
largely economically based, men dominate women generally because they dominate them economically
What is the cultural view of the patriachy?
problem with it is it has convinced people that masculine ways of doing and being are superior
What is the post modern view of the patriarchy?
affects different women differently and a range of solutions are needed to combat diverse impacts
What is liberal main beliefs?
if legal and economic equality can be achieved form women, we will achieve general liberation
What is the radical main beliefs?
male and female conscious must change if liberation is to be achieved
What is the socialist main beliefs?
patterns of employment and economic structure of the family have to be transformed to achieve economi9c liberation of women
What is the cultural main beliefs?
women will be liberated once the ways in which they are different from men are fully valued by society
What is the post-modern main beliefs?
liberation of women cannot occur all at once because of women’s different circumstances
What is the liberal view on women’s freedom?
women should be free to choose how they conduct lives and relationships with men
What is the radical view on women’s freedom?
it is not sufficient to create freedom for women- men’s domination must be destroyed and consciousness of superiority reversed
What is the cultural view on women’s freedom?
be free, women need to live in society where raising children or being a homemaker is accorded the same level of respect as working outside the home
What is the socialist view of women’s freedom?
women cannot be genuinely free until they achieve economic freedom
What is the post-modern view on women’s freedom?
freedom and rights must be extended to women from all backgrounds and those who self-identify as women
