Present
Used to describe what happens regularly and what is happening now.
Conditional
Used to describe what would, could or should happen.
Past perfect
Used to describe an action in the past that has finished.
Past imperfect
Used to describe an ongoing action in the past or something that used to happen
Pluperfect
Used to talk about actions far back in the past such as events that have happened.
Near future
Used to describe what is going to happen with certainty.
Simple future
Used to describe what will happen for predictions and future projects and in sentences with si and quand.
Future perfect
Used to describe what the subject will or shall have done.
Infinitive
Used to mean ‘to + verb’, a verb without ‘to’, or a verb ending with ‘-ing’.
Imperative
Used to order or instruct someone to do something.
Passive voice
Used when you don’t know who is doing an action, or to emphasise that an action is being done to something or someone, rather than focusing on who or what is doing the action.
Present participle
Used with the preposition ‘en’ to mean ‘while doing’, ‘on doing’, ‘by doing’, or as an adjective.
Perfect infinitive
Used to mean ‘having done’ something.
Present subjunctive
Used when a person wants someone else to do something, or to express thoughts, possibility or necessity.
