How do you win a point?

You win a point if:
• you hit the ball over the net into the playing area
• your opponent hits the ball and it doesn’t go over the net
• your opponent hits the ball and it lands outside of the playing area
• your opponent serves incorrectly twice

What are the different shots?

Forehand - Hitting the tennis ball with your racket arm open
Backhand - Hitting the tennis ball with your racket arm across your body
Volley - Hitting the ball before it bounces
The Half Volley - When the ball meets the ball and racket face at nearly the same time, and the ball bounces off the ground onto the racket strings
The Serve - The shot that starts the game. Drop the ball and when it bounces, hit it with your racket to the other side of the court, to the opponent’s service box

If both players have 40 points, this means it’s deuce and to win, you have to win the next game, gain an advantage and then win the game after, leading to Game. If a player gains an advantage but then loses the game after, it goes back to deuce.

What are the other rules?

• You get 2 chances to serve
• You have to serve into the serving box
• When a player is serving, they must be behind the service line and the ball must bounce in the other player’s service line
• Tennis balls can only bounce once, not any more times
• The ball must be returned and hit over the net and within the boundaries of the court
• If a player serves a ball which hits the top of the net before bouncing into the correct service box, it’s called a let. You’re allowed to take that serve again
• You can play singles (1v1) or doubles (2v2)
