Some antiabortionists attempt to cite the Sixth Commandment as evidence that the Bible is anti-abortion. Give examples of how the Bible contradicts itself in this sense.

They fail to investigate the bible’s definition of life (breath) or its deafening silence on abortion. Significantly, the Mosaic law in Exodus 21:22-25, directly following the Ten Commandments, makes it clear that an embryo or fetus is not a human being.
“Thou shalt not kill” did not apply to many living, breathing human beings, including children, who were routinely massacred in the bible. The Mosaic law orders “Thou shalt kill” people for committing such “crimes” as cursing one’s father or mother (Ex. 21:17), for being a “stubborn son” (Deut. 21:18-21), for being a homosexual (Lev. 20:13), or even for picking up sticks on the Sabbath (Numbers 15:32-35)! Far from protecting the sanctity of life, the bible promotes capital punishment for conduct which no civilized person or nation would regard as criminal.
No investigan la definición de la vida contenida en la Biblia (respiración) o su silencio ensordecedor respecto al aborto. Cabe señalar que la ley de Moisés en Éxodo 21:22-25, que sigue directamente después de los Diez Mandamientos, deja patente que un embrión o un feto no es un ser humano.
“No matarás” no se aplicaba a muchos seres humanos vivos de carne y hueso, incluyendo a niños, que fueron masacrados con frecuencia en la Biblia. La Ley de Moisés ordena “Sí matarás” a la gente por cometer crímenes tales como emplear palabrotas con tu padre o tu madre (Ex. 21:17), por ser un “hijo cabezudo” (Deut. 21:18-21), por ser homosexual (Lev. 20:13), o incluso por recoger palos durante el Sábado (Num 15:32-35)! Lejos de proteger la inviolabilidad de la vida, la Biblia promueve el castigo capital por conductas que ninguna persona civilizada o nación contemplaría como criminal.
