- stylomandibular ligament
3
Q
Describe the temporomandibular ligament?
A
- attached from temporal bone to condyle
- fibres of ligament extend down and back into articular capsule
- inserts into neck of condyle
- supports articular capsule
4
Q
What does the TMJ consist of?
A
- head of condyle
- interarticular disc

5
Q
Describe the stylomandibular ligament?
A
- extends from styloid process to angle of mandible
- narrow band fibres extending downwards and forwards
- limits movement
6
Q
Describe the sphenomandibular joint?
A
- extends from spine of sphenoid to lingula
- flat, thin band which aims to limit distension in mandible
