Tempeter Flashcards
1
Q
Temperature:
A
Temperature is a average kinetic energy of particles in a substance, adding or removing energy from matter changes the temperature of the matter, increasing temperature of matter means that particles are gaining energy
2
Q
Once matter reaches a certain temperature what happens?
A
The particles have gained enough energy to change state (extra facts: melting point of water is 0c, when ice reaches 0c it melts and changes into a liquid state
3
Q
Thermal expansion:
A
Solids, liquids, gases expand when heated, and contracted when cooled, so when power lines are tight in the winter it’s because their shriveled up and in the summer if they drip it’s because they expanded
