Temperature (AHD) Flashcards
Treshold for hypothermia
35 celsius
4 ways to loose heat
Conduction
Convection
Radiation
Evaporation
Although 35 celsius is the treshold for hypothermia, what is the temperature at which death occurs?
Generally 25 celsius
2 particular findings at the death scene for hypothermia
Paradoxical undressing
Hide and die
4 mecanisms for death in hypothermia
Enzyme failure
Cardiac arrhythmia
Electrolyte dysregulation
Internal hypoxia (left shift of O2-Hb dissociation curve)
What are some of the morphological findings of hypothermia
Depends on the time at which hypothermia develops (more prominent if longer period of time)
- Frost erythema
- Hemorrhagic gastric erosions
- Lipid accumulation in epithelial cells of renal proximal tubules
- Pink/red lividity (due to left shift of the O2 Hb dissociation curve)
Where do we find frost erythema?
Knees, elbows, hip joint
T or F: Wischenswki spots lesions are hemorrhagic
NO
Necrosis of mucosa + brown deposit of hematoidin
Other ddx than hypothermia for Wischnewski lesions
Shock
DKA
AKA
Mechanism of death in hyperthermia
Cardiac arrhythmia
Seizure
Hypovolemic shock
Eventual circulatory collapse
Risk factors for hyperthermia
Old and young
Predisposing health condition (alcoholism, obesity)
Extreme exertion
Relative humidity
Diuretics
Autopsy findings in hyperthemia
Acute tubular necrosis
Adrenal hemorrhage
Hepatocellular necrosis
Dehydration
