Temperature Flashcards
Stevenson’s Screen. Location and what is measures.
Temperature & Humidity.
Located 4ft above ground (1-2m)
Weather balloons measure what?
What is it’s sensor called?
Temperature, Humidity and Pressure at altitudes.
Radiosonde.
The sun warms the surface via _____, which are (short/long) UV rays.
Insolation. Short UV rays.
Conduction is heat transfer via:
Contact.
Convection is heat transfer via:
Vertical Movement of air.
Radiation is heat transfer via:
Absorption of long wave radiation
Release of latent heat is heat transfer via:
When condensation takes place.
Advection is heat transfer via:
Horizontal movement of air
Turbulence is heat transfer via:
Turbulent movement of air.
Heat transfer via Contact is:

Heat transfer When condensation takes place is:
Release of latent heat.
Heat transfer via Advection is:
Horizontal movement of air
Heat transfer via Turbulent movement of air:
Turbulence
Name all 5 types of Inversion.
Valley Inversion Subsidence Inversion Ground Inversion Frontal inversion Tropopause inversion
Explain Subsidence Inversion
Occurs with a high pressure system.
Air is being sucked down under pressure. Air under pressure heats up. If the temperature on the ground is colder, the warm air can’t sink any further, due to the density of the air.
Explain Specific Heat Capacity
Heat capacity is the amount of heat required to change a substance’s temperature by a specific amount.
