Temperature Flashcards
Describe thermal equilibrium.
When the rate of flow of thermal energy from one object to another is the same in the forwards direction as it is the reverse, the objects are thermal equilibrium. The objects then have the same temperature.
How is thermal energy transferred?
From regions of higher temperature to regions of lower temperature.
Why do we use the Kelvin scale?
It does not depend on the properties of a particular substance, and using this scale, a particle’s energy is proportional to it’s temperature.
What is absolute zero?
It equals 0K. At this temperature all particles have the minimum possible internal energy - nearly no energy at all.
How do we convert °C into Kelvin?
Add 273.15.
