It is very important that the multiple layers of metal are removed from any location where metal forming equipment may come in contact with the seam. If this material is not removed, the equipment may be damaged.
Why is it a good idea to start spot welding at the centre of the lap seam?
This will eliminate bulging and buckling between spot welding

The ends of the material should be pre-rolled slightly so that the pipe ends up round with no flat spots at the seam.
