Technology Push And Market Pull / CAD CAM Flashcards
What technology push? and what does it happen before?
Technology Push is when research and development in new technology, drives the development of new products and it happens before there is consumer demand for a product
What is market pull? Add examples
Market pull is when product ideas are produced in response to market forces or customer needs.
Examples of this include the development of cameras, which have become smaller, more
lightweight and higher performing as a result of customer needs.
What is CAD?
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computers (or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.
What is CAM?
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is the use of software and computer-controlled machinery to automate a manufacturing process.
What are the advantages and disatvantages of CAD?
Advantages:
-Ideas can be drawn and developed quickly
-Designs can be viewed from all angles and with a range of materials
-Some testing and consumer feedback can be done before costly production takes place
Disadvantages:
-Expensive to set up
-Needs a skilled workforce
-Difficult to keep up with constantly changing and improving technology
A and D of CAM
Advantages:
-Fast and accurate production
-Machines can run constantly on repetitive tasks
Disadvantages:
-Expensive to set up
-Needs a skilled workforce of engineers
