Technological crime definition
=offences involving the use of ICT such as internet, social media etc. -also known as cyber/e-crimes
Examples of technological crime
-identity fraud
-financial crimes
-hate crimes
-illegal downloading
-cyber trespassing(hacking/viruses)
-publishing/viewing child pornography
Offenders of technological crime
-most people could commit these due to the easy access of the internet(illegal downloading, trolling)
-however some crimes (hacking, financial fraud) requires more tech knowledge
Victims of technological crimes
-anyone using the internet could be a victim (especially more vulnerable e.g. old/less educated easier for financial fraud)
-owners of publishing rights (to films, music) victims to piracy/ breach of copyright
-survey found 1/4 of 2000 14-18 year old’s been victim of online abuse
Level of public awareness
-varied, victims are likely aware of trolls but cyber-fraud/identity theft may take longer to spot
Criminal/deviant
-many are both
-some just deviant (trolling)
-some criminal but not seen deviant by most of society (illegally watching films)
